Short sea shipping is an attractive alternative to road haulage allowing shippers to by-pass congested roadways, borders and land bottlenecks. Short sea shipping transports commercial freight and passengers on inland and coastal waterways and the Great Lakes. Distances traveled are relatively short. Short sea shipping supports the province’s social, political and trade agendas. The Province should support short sea shipping through research, investment and pilot programs.
